Community Service: Special Olympics Torch Run
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is the movement's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. At its most basic level the Torch Run is an actual running event, in which officers and athletes run the Flame of Hope™ to the Opening Ceremonies of local Special Olympics competitions and State and National Games.
Annually, more than 85,000 dedicated, compassionate and volunteer law enforcement officers participate in the torch run throughout 35 nations, 12 Canadian provinces and 50 US states, raising over $500 Million since its inception in 1981.

Physical Fitness Test
Pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy fitness standards including 1.5-mile run, push-ups, sit-ups, and flexibility test.
Background Investigation
A comprehensive check of your criminal, employment, and personal history.
Interview Process
Multiple interviews, including a panel interview and a final interview with the Chief of Police.
Conditional Offer & Exams
Receive a conditional offer, followed by medical, drug, and psychological screenings.

Work Schedule
12-Hour Panama Schedule
Work only 14 days per month on average, giving you more time for family, hobbies, and enjoying Maine life.
Basic Requirements
We're looking for dedicated individuals of good character. No college degree is required - we value commitment and integrity.
Essential Requirements
Age
At least 21 years old (or 20 with 60 college credits)
Education
High school diploma or GED equivalent
License
Valid Maine driver's license (or ability to obtain one)
Background
No felony convictions and of good moral character
Fitness
Must pass the MCJA physical fitness test
Skills
Strong communication & problem-solving abilities
Important Information for Applicants
MCJA Testing Required: All non-certified applicants must have already passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy ALERT test and Physical Fitness Test before submitting a full application.
Lateral Transfers Welcome: Currently certified Maine law enforcement officers are encouraged to apply. We offer competitive incentives and an abbreviated hiring process for experienced officers.

Police Academy Training
New, non-certified officers attend the 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP) at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
