An MDI High School graduate returns to serve and protect our school communities.

School Resource Officer Elias Burne
Officer Elias Burne, Bar Harbor Police Department's newest School Resource Officer

We are proud to announce and recognize our newest School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Elias Burne! SRO Burne has been an integral part of the Bar Harbor Mount Desert Police Department since 2018, where he has served with distinction in the patrol division.

Officer Burne brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to his new role. He serves as a department Field Training Officer and M.A.R.C. instructor, and shares his expertise by teaching at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. His connection to the local community runs deep - as a graduate of MDI High School himself, he now gives back by assisting in coaching the MDI HS football team.

Schools Served

In his new role as School Resource Officer, SRO Burne will divide his time between three schools:

  • MDI High School
  • Conners-Emerson School in Bar Harbor
  • Mount Desert Elementary School

This assignment allows Officer Burne to serve the community where he grew up, making him uniquely qualified to connect with and understand the needs of our local students.

Please join us in congratulating SRO Burne on his new assignment! His experience, dedication, and strong community ties make him an excellent choice for this important role in our schools.
